Walking your peacemaking talk… road rage anyone?

5 December 2006

This is a bit of a belated follow up…

During one of our last mediation success group sessions we were talking about “walking your talk” and how the essence of who you are as a mediator “vibrates” in the room.  As a mediator one of your jobs is to “bring peace into the room.”

I am continuously challenged by this.  I consciously work on forgiving others and forcing myself to communicate when my natural inclination is to avoid and flee conflict.  It takes work as you know.

One of the mediators in our coaching group mentioned he heard a talk on this subject and the facilitator said something like… “bottom line, if you want to be a good mediator, you can’t have road rage.”

Michelle Hess, who is also a coach and brain gym specialist and was co-facilitating our calls, wrote an excellent piece about this topic in her Interplay blog called “Road Rage and Peace-Making.“  Check it out.

In becoming a master mediator or conflict specialist of any sort, I believe you must “practice what you preach.”

Go make peace today.

NEVER GIVE UP!
